This time I’ll be translating a Korean song to the Pilipino language through poetry. A lot of JYJ’s Filipino fans may already know the meaning of the song, but I will try to translate it to Pilipino and hope it turns out, if not as beautiful as the original, as close as it can get to the message of the song.

JYJ Time!! This is a song performed by Jaejoong during their Thanksgiving Concert at Tokyo Japan. It tells of a very beautiful, but a very sad love story. I can’t find a Romanisation of the lyrics but here’s an English Translation based on the DVD of JYJ’s Thanksgiving concert at the Tokyo Dome.

Background: “Mula sa Puso” is the soundtrack of the same-named Pinoy teleserye revived in 2011.  To briefly describe the two-year long series (Yes, Pinoy series used to last that long... and I haven’t talked about Mara Clara yet), here goes...

Via (played by Claudine Barretto) is the only daughter of Don Fernando (played by Juan Rodrigo), a really rich man. On the celebration of her 18^th birthday, she discovered that she was betrothed by her father to her childhood friend, Michael (played by Diether Ocampo). During the party, she got kidnapped. A stranger, Gabriel (played by Rico Yan), was able to rescue her and they fell in love with each other. Later on, Via found out about her real mother Magda (played by Jaclyn Jose) and throughout the entire story, with their love they fought against all odds. In this case, all odds comes in the form of a manipulative evil aunt, Selina (played by Princess Punzalan) who only wants to acquire the wealth of his brother - Don Fernando. The ‘bida’ cries, the ‘contrabida’ laughs, then someone cries, someone laughs, someone runs, someone fights, someone cries, someone cries more, and then there’s more crying, etc. In the end, Via and Gabriel lived happily ever after. My childhood years were spent listening to Rey Valera songs, mostly because my father loves them so much. Eventually, I could not get over the songs as they’ve crept up on me. Until now, I still love them. They have found a special place in my heart, filed right there in the compartment named “Love for Music”, just between “Love for Food” and “Love for Vacation Leaves”. (They’re arranged alphabetically for proper filing.”

Background: Reynaldo Valera Guardiano (a.k.a. Rey Valera) is a Filipino singer, songwriter, music director, film scorer, and television host.
